Frequently Asked Questions
Have a question? Below you can find answers to commonly asked questions.
I'm not flex- Can I do yoga?
This is probably the most frequently asked question. YES - yoga is for the flexible and the non-flexible...but most importantly, yoga is for the willing. When I first started, I wasn't as flexible as I am now. A lot of changes and growth come with persistence!
What do I need to start my practice?
Breath. No, really...if you can breathe - then you're already halfway there. Materially, a mat and props - strap and pair of blocks. You don't need fancy expensive gimmicks...just whatever works for you.
What is yoga anyway?
Yoga means to unite, to join. The practice of yoga encompasses bringing together all aspects of YOU - your mind, body and soul. Yoga is an ancient practice outlined by 8 limbs: the yamas (restraints), niyamas (observances), asana (postures), pranayama (breathing), pratyahara (withdrawal of senses), dharana (concentration), dhyani (meditation), and samadhi (absorption). It is said that the incorporation of these limbs are essential on one's journey towards enlightenment. However, today most people focus on the practice of asana - yoga postures - that help build and improve strength, stamina and flexibility.
Do I have the right type of body for yoga?
Repeat after me: Every BODY is a yoga body. No matter your size, gender, race...whatever...yoga is for anyone willing.
